Ganoderma: catch it early

Basal stem rot kills palms. Early signs and care.

Early signs

  • Several unopened spear leaves, pale or drooping lower fronds.
  • Later: brown shelf-like mushrooms (brackets) at the trunk base.

What to do

  • Every year, put 5 kg Trichoderma-fortified neem cake in each palm basin as prevention.
  • Don't mulch with leaves or bunches from infected palms. Clean tools between palms.
  • Don't flood infected fields or plough palm basins.
