Palm Day

Harvest at the right time

Rounds, ripeness and getting fruit to the mill fresh.

Keep the round

  • Harvest each block every 10–15 days. Late rounds mean over-ripe bunches and fruit lost on the ground.
  • Cut only ripe bunches: reddish-orange fruits, with a few loose fruits dropped.

Cutting

  • Use a chisel for young, short palms and a sickle on an aluminium pole for tall palms.
  • Leave only a short stalk on the bunch; mills pay less for long stalks.
  • Collect every loose fruit from the basin: they carry the most oil.

After cutting

  • Get bunches to the mill within 24 hours. Oil quality drops fast after cutting.
